The New Computerised Amplifier
Exchange has been designed to replace the existing Amplifier
Manual exchange or provide a new installation with a Modern
communications platform. The system allows the operator the
ability to communicate with personnel underground on all or
individual amplifier circuits. The mimic panel provides either
touch screen or mouse driven icons to operate the system.
The Windows based program will operate on a stand-alone computer
or can be networked to provide additional communications locations
if required.
Normal operation
In normal operation, the operator
will be able to contact personnel underground by selecting
the required circuit from the mimic panel and voice page or
send an alert tone prior to voice paging. The mimic panel
will allow two or more circuits to be joined allowing communications
between circuits i.e. Longwall joined to the trunk belt.
Call Exchange Operation
Call exchange tone will be detected
and displayed on the mimic panel; speech is automatically
connected to the operator. Further call exchange tones can
be detected and indicated to the operator while in communication
with the first caller.
Emergency
In the case of an emergency, the
mimic panel allows the operator to send the tone to all circuits
in one operation.
Voice Recording
Voice recording of operator calls
is an option that allows automatic recording of all voice
conversations; this can be configured to record automatically
from the activation of an emergency call from a phone underground.
Allowing the operator to record the details of the incident
for later playback to other emergency personnel. This recorded
data is further protected via a secure password to ensure
data is not inadvertently lost or erased.
Emergency Procedure Questionnaire
Prompting
When the voice recording feature
is fitted, the initiation of an emergency alarm, will automatically
display a operator help screen, this gives a list of questions
from the mines emergency procedures with questions to ask
regarding the emergency situation including:

The details are on
screen and the recording feature provides the facility to
replay the conversations later to fill in on details.
Failure Mode
In the event of computer failure
the operator then has the ability to answer and control circuits
via the menu keys on the LCU. Underground personnel will be
able to communicate to the surface using the call exchange
button. The Software can be loaded onto a replacement computer
restoring normal communications in minutes.
Visual Diagnostics
The mimic display shows the status
of all circuits connected. If Circuits are left connected
for long periods of time the software will alert the operator
allowing the operator to listen across the circuit prior to
termination of the call.
Call Log
The system will keep a log of all
operator calls and call exchange calls for underground, these
are time and date stamped, stored in the system until required.
Memo function
Mimic panel buttons have a memo
function to record notes regarding this circuit e.g. Date
of installation, Reports from operators etc. This allows a
history file to be put together.
