Self Rescuer Maintenance in compliance with MDG 3006 MRT 7 (Brochure No: 03-215-35)

The N.S.W. and Queensland Governments have developed a code entitled “MDG 3006 MRT7 2001: Code for Maintaining and Testing the Performance of Escape Breathing Apparatus in Underground Mines”. The Code fully details the maintenance, periodic testing, and requires details to be kept relating to wearer classification, service history.

The ‘AusTran’ system is a rapid, user friendly, method of inspecting and recording the maintenance of Austdac supplied self rescuers in accordance with the code, and comprises:

• A passive transponder fitted inside each self rescuer.
• A hand held scanner.

• A custom designed ‘AusTran’ database program.

The transponder is factory fitted inside the self rescuer unit making it a tamperproof system.

The transponder system eliminates human error in its operation. Records are stored in the scanner and are downloaded into the AusTran database program. This allows for the rapid recording of self rescuers’ condition without manually writing details, i.e. a paperless system.

The following records can be produced on demand:

• Inspection history and reports.
• Fault history.
• Monthly management reports.
• Number of units tested which are withdrawn from service.
• Last inspection and test date.
